Hello, WA State…

The original idea behind this website, was to document the steps it would take to open up a bakery. Starting from nothing.

Well — here’s official step #1.

I just applied for a business license within the state of Washington.

It cost me 25.00.

I’m preeeetty thrilled about it.

    • Lol yes — easy to get the license, but that doesn’t do much except get you started. A few minutes answering questions, paying fees, then you’re done w/ State. But then you have City & County. Selling food goods at a Farmer’s market.. you have to have first your state business license, then your city business license (which is specific to the city you’re selling goods, so if you sell at more than one market it’s a license for each city). Next it’s the County, for a food permit from the County Health District. Those three (plus membership & weekly lease fees for the space) are the initial steps to selling food in a public setting. Catering is different, another fee and form.. I might need an additional special permit for selling at a farmer’s market (being a tempory location) .. selling food goods out of my home kitchen is another inspection & permit.. then owning a physical location like an actual bakery.. now I’m getting further & further away from the info I know.

.. aaaand I’m so sure you had no idea I’d share all this information w/ you over that question, but I have spent a lot of time today researching, so I’m half writing it down so I don’t forget either and because I’m pretty proud of my mad research skills 🙂
